Mrs. Everista Burciaga (Reyna) Resident of Lubbock

Everista (Eva) Guerra Burciaga, age 73, passed away on May 18, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on October 30, 1949, in Pemiscot, Missouri. Eva touched the lives of many and left behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication.

In 1965, Eva had the honor of being crowned the Queen of Mexico's Independence Day, a testament to her beauty and grace. She graduated from Lubbock High in 1968 and pursued her passion for cosmetology, graduating from cosmetology school. Eva devoted over 20 years of her life as a foster parent, providing love, care, and support to numerous children. Her selflessness and nurturing spirit had a profound impact on their lives.

Eva dedicated 25 years of service to the Lubbock Independent School District before her retirement. Her commitment to education touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. She was highly respected and valued for her hard work and dedication to shaping young minds. She collected Coca-Cola commemorative bottles and other memorabilia. 

Above all, Eva cherished spending time with her family. She leaves behind her loving spouse, Alonso Burciaga, and her children: Gomesindo and Monica Perez, Siliva Ballejo, and John Robert Burciaga. Her grandchildren, Albert and Mari Chapa, Christopher and Jayton Chapa, Mariah and DJ McKinzie, Eric and Rebecca Mitchell, Eva Perez, Christopher and Kelbi Mitchell, along with her 13 great-grandchildren, brought immense joy to her life. Eva is also survived by her siblings: Luis Gonzales, Juan and Sylva Aldama, Felix and Rosemary Gonzales, Sylvia Duran, and Noe Guerra.

Eva was predeceased by her parents, Juan and Maria Gonzales, and her and son-in-law, Paul Ballejo. She also mourned the loss of her child, Timothy Burciaga, and her grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Chapa and Gomesindo Perez VI.

A Viewing and Rosary will be held at Grace Funeral Care Inc. on Tuesday May 23, 2023. The Viewing will take place from 3-8 pm, with Rosary beginning at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at 10 am on Wednesday May 24, 2023. She will be laid to rest in the Peaceful Gardens Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Felix Gonzales, David Perez, Johnny Aldama in honor of Juan Aldama, Albert Chapa, Christopher Chapa, Eva Perez in honor of Gomesindo Perez VI, and Eric Mitchell. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Grace Funeral Home in honor of Eva Guerra Burciaga. Friends, relatives, and all those whose lives were touched by Eva are invited to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
