Mr. Johnny P. Vela Sr. Resident of Slaton

Johnny P. Vela Sr. 74, of Slaton passed away Monday July 4, 2022, peacefully surrounded by family. A visitation will be held Saturday July 9, 2022, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a celebration of life beginning at 2 p.m. Johnny was born July 29, 1947, in Slaton, Texas to Patricio Vela and Victoria Pequeno.

Johnny was active person and enjoyed being out and about. He loved to visit the local bakery for sweets, never meeting a stranger. Johnny was a lover of Christ and attended his church regularly. He loved to joke and often made phone calls to everyone just to “check in”. He was an outgoing person and liked the game room as well. While he was often with friends, he enjoyed riding around with his sister Olga.

For a man of 74 years of age, he was active and even rode his bike. Johnny will be missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Patricia Vela, Modesta Chavez, Elizabeth Martinez, brothers; Miguel Vela, Victor Vela, Arthur Vela, Bobby Vela, and Albert Vela. He is also preceded in death by his sons; Johnny Vela Jr, Proxy Vela, and great grandson; Emerson Vela.

He leaves to cherish his fondest memories, his children; Martha Adame (Tony), Patricia Chapa (Raymond), and Johnny Vela Jr. He also leaves sisters; Olga Santos, Sylvia Reyna, brothers; Jesse Vela, Manuel Vela, Joe Angel Vela, Victor Jr. Vela, and Patricio Vela, 9 grandchildren, and 22 greatchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
