Mr. John Jay Knox Resident of Lubbock

By grace, John Jay Knox joined his father and many other loved ones in Heaven after a brief illness on September 18, 2021 at the age of 64. He was the third child of Mary Helen (Keith) and Hubert “Jack” Knox. He is survived by his mother, Mary Helen Wall of Lubbock and two brothers, Jerry Knox of Lubbock and Danny Knox of Round Rock, TX and a sister, Judy Briggs of Lubbock. He graduated from Cooper ISD.

Jay was a free spirit who discovered he loved working in the marine environment. He developed a broad set of skills working with his dad at Knox Appliance and a variety of construction and mechanic jobs before moving to St. John Virgin Islands in 1989 as a boat mechanic. Hurricane Hugo was detrimental to him getting established there but he loved that lifestyle and remained there for almost a decade. He later moved to Old Towne, FL working at a marina in Suwanee. He had a reputation of being generously kind, and eager to help others. He dared to live a lifestyle few would consider. Due to declining health, he returned to Lubbock to be near family in October of 2020. A small gathering of family and close friends of Mary Helen will gather at Sherick Memorial Home 2502 Utica Ave Lubbock, Tx 79407 on Friday, September 24, 2021 4:30 p.m. Others are invited to join the ceremony on Facebook Live.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to Sherick, a non-profit facility, home to Jay’s mother and many friends he made after returning to Lubbock.
