Mr. Jose L. Tapia "Tata" Resident of Brownfield

Jose Lupe Tapia 67, of Brownfield, TX passed away at 1 p.m. Monday October 3, 2022 at University Medical Center in Lubbock. He was surrounded by family and church members.

Visitation for Jose Tapia will be Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at Living Hope A Four Square Church, 601 Lubbock Rd. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Living Hope A Four Square Church, 601 Lubbock Rd. Burial will be at Brownfield Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. 

Jose was born June 8, 1955 to Nasario and Lucia Tapia. Jose is survived by his son; Joey Tapia, daughter; Michelle Gonzales, grandchildren; John, Asia and Joshua Gonzales, two brothers; Ramon (Maggie) Tapia and Juan (Sarah) Tapia and one sister, Patsy Maldonado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored greatly.

He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife; Linda Tapia, his father; Nasario Tapia and his mother; Lucia Tapia. Jose coached his son as well as his grandchildren in baseball from PeeWee league through Baberuth. He had a young spirit and he absolutely loved hanging out with his grandchildren, who called him Tata.

He was loved by all of his grandchildren’s friends who also referred to him as Tata or Grandpa Joe. Jose was the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan.  You could find him every game day either on the couch at home or at a BBQ cheering on his “Boys.” Jose was respected and loved by the community and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
