Otis “Slick” Shipp
Family and friends will be celebrating the life of Otis Burl Shipp, 83 years old, who went home on January 10, 2022 after suffering from illness for many years. He was born Farmersville, Texas on May 3, 1938. Service will be held on January 15, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Shields of Faith, formally known as The Refuge Christian Fellowship, 9011 Ave. T, Lubbock, Texas. Mark Martin will be conducting the services.
Otis was a truck driver for over 35 years. He retired in 2010 from Heath Trucking after 27 years. He was known to the other truck drivers as “Slick” and carried that name with him throughout his life. He enjoyed playing the guitar, riding motorcycles and being with his family. After he retired, he shared the word of Christ while riding with The Fellowship Riders, delivering toys at Christmas, feeding the homeless, and witnessing to anyone that would listen.
Otis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock since 1978. He was a dedicated member of the church. When he got sick and was no longer able to attend church, he would follow the service on television. He became a Christian at a young age. He carried his love for Christ until he was called home. He loved sharing his knowledge about the Bible and what blessing he received from God with others around him.
Otis was survived by daughters Elizabeth Shipp of Wolfforth, and Lillie Shipp of Wolfforth. He had 4 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Richard and Edith Agatha Shipp, 1 sister, Mary Alice Sorrells, and his son, Guy Weldon Shipp.
Cremation arrangenents are entrusted to the professionals of Grace Funeral Care Inc.
