Rickey Morrison, an artist, serviceman, and a man of quiet faith, passed away on June 4, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, bravery, and love. A visitation will be held Sunday June 25, 2023 5-7 at Grace Funeral Care-Lubbock 6604 Interstate 27. Funeral service will be next day, Monday June 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Tim Cooks as eulogist. Mr. Morrison will be laid to rest at the Resthaven Memorial Park.
Born on February 11, 1963, in Lubbock, Texas to Betty Morrison and Otis Cooks Jr. Rickey's life was marked by his passion for art, his commitment to his country, and devotion to his faith.
After graduating from Estacado High School in 1982, Rickey embarked on a journey of service and self-discovery. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he displayed courage and dedication in defending his country. His service to the nation was a testament to his noble character and a reflection of his love for his fellow citizens.
Rickey's artistic talent was another aspect of his life. With his skilled hand, he had the remarkable ability to capture the essence of individuals through his portrait drawings. His artwork touched the hearts of his family and friends, providing a lasting visual representation of their loved ones. Rickey's creative expressions reflected his eye for detail and his ability to see the beauty in every subject.
Throughout his life, Rickey found solace and inspiration within the pages of the Bible. A devout reader, he delved into the scriptures, immersing himself in its wisdom and teachings. Rickey's faith was an anchor that provided him with strength and guidance, nurturing his spirit and shaping his character.
Rickey's professional journey led him through various roles, each contributing to his personal and professional growth. He began his career at the Lubbock Club, dedicating many years of service to the organization. Rickey also lent his skills and talents to the Mayfield Paper Company and the Coca Cola Company, leaving a positive impact on those he encountered. At the time of his passing, Rickey was employed at Professional Maintenance Inc., where his commitment and work ethic were highly valued.
Rickey will be forever cherished in the heart of his beloved mother Christine Cooks and his beloved siblings: Margaret Ann Wilson, Shelia Ann Morrison, Betty Jo Morrison, Sharon (George) Truss, Tim (Lupe) Cooks, and Ronald (Monica) Cooks. His memory will also be carried on by a loving host of nieces and nephews who were touched by his presence. Rickey's beloved pet chihuahua, Biscuit, held a special place in his heart, providing him with unconditional love and companionship in his life.
He is preceded in death by his Uncle James Edward Morrison, grandmothers Ila Morrison and Virgie Jackson, mother Betty Morrison, sister Peggy Sue Morrison, brother Sherman Morrison, brother-n-law Michael Kirkwood, Aunt Maggie Gean Taylor, and his father Otis Cooks Jr. Although they have passed on, their memory will forever be held dear by Rickey's family, who find solace in knowing they are reunited in eternal peace.
Rickey Morrison's life is a testament to his dedication to his art, his country, and his faith. His artistic talents, selfless service, and unyielding love will continue to inspire and resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal rest, and may his memory be a blessing to all who remember him.
