Johnie Darrell Turpen, 87, of Plainview, TX, passed away on November 24, 2020, in Amarillo, TX.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 2pm, at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview, TX, (1001 W. 7th St. Plainview, TX), with Pastor Mike Schafer officiating. Funeral services will be live streamed from the Grace Funeral and Cremation Care Facebook page for those who cannot attend.
Johnie was born in Lubbock, TX, to Johnie and Bess Turpen on April 26, 1933. He received his education in Lubbock, then joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 at the age of 21. He was honorably discharged after his tenure. Johnie worked many jobs at several places, but spent his golden years working as an insurance agent with the family business located in Plainview. He was a devoted Grandfather to his four grandchildren. He was also a devoted car hobbyist and drag racer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnie Turpen and Bess Alexander, as well as a granddaughter, Laura Howard.
He is survived by a daughter, Tonda Howard and husband David; son, Johnie Turpen and wife Melissa; sister, Jody Ellen Lawson; grandchildren, Sam Howard, Anna Howard, Jacob Turpen and Joshua Turpen.
He had great respect and gratitude for our first responders and military. Charitable donations to Carry the Load

in his memory, will honor him and be greatly appreciated.
Johnie’s light shone brightly and he will be dearly missed. The family asks that masks be worn, and social distance be kept.
