Ms. Maria Del Carmen Ciénega Martinez Resident of Lubbock

Visitation for María Del Carmen Ciénega Martínez aka “Carmen”, will be held on Friday, January 1, 2021, from 11am to 2pm, with a Rosary service beginning at 12:30pm, at Grace Funeral and Cremation Care – Legacy Chapel in Lubbock, TX. Graveside services will follow at 3pm at Nevel Cemetery in Tahoka, TX, with Father Nahun Lopez officiating. Pall bearers will be: Zaryan Garza, Nicholas Obaso, David Perez Jr., Edward Martinez Jr., Jake Cirilo and Aaron Cirilo. María Del Carmen Ciénega Martínez aka “Carmen”, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 25, 2020. Carmen was born on July 23, 1948, to Edward Martinez Sr. and Rita Cienega. Carmen was raised in Mineral Wells and Borden County. She lived most of her young adult life in Tahoka, TX, then later resided in Levelland, TX, for most of her years until moving to Lubbock in 2017. Carmen worked for Clean Co. in Levelland. She was also a nurse in Tahoka under a doctor’s license from 1964 to 1979. She loved her family and close friends. She worked extremely hard and never gave up on family. She loved her faith and was an active member of her parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland. When she moved to Lubbock, she became a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Carmen always enjoyed gardening, music and really loved dancing. She married Jose Angel Lucero in 1979, and the two divorced in 1998. Carmen is preceded in death by both parents, Edward and Rita Martinez; brothers Edward Martinez Jr., Manuel Martinez, Mario Martinez, Narcisso Martinez, Juan Jose “Johnny” Cortez; sister San Juanita Gonzales and Lupe Lucero. She is survived by one son, Jose Alfredo Lucero of Sundown, daughters, Rocío Lucero Nanjaya and husband Nicholas Obaso of Lubbock and Maria Guadalupe Lucero of Levelland. She also loved her granddaughter Malaika Lucero, along with her three grandchildren whom she raised, Zaryan Garza, Johnni Lucero and Aryana Lucero.
